Our Approach

At Cocklebury Farmhouse Homes, we provide tailored, compassionate care to adults with learning disabilities.

Our person-centred approach combines expertise, empathy, and respect to empower every resident to thrive. Below is an overview of the services we offer.

Person-Centred Care

We believe that every person is unique, with their own preferences, abilities, and aspirations. That’s why all our care is highly personalised, ensuring each resident’s care plan is specifically designed to meet their needs, goals, and interests. By building strong, trusting relationships with our residents, we create a supportive environment that nurtures independence and growth.

Our approach includes daily/weekly big outings, but it also includes “the small stuff” - the things that make a difference to someone’s day. We build lego everyday with a resident who is passionate about it, we go and play with remote control cars in fun locations, and we empower people to build their domestic or work skills whether this be recycling, cooking or 'office work'. These little things make a difference, and it demonstrates to the individual that we care, and we want to spend time with them doing the things that they love.

We also pride ourselves in understanding everyone’s communication preferences and ensure we engage with people how they want. Some individuals may shout or be loud but we understand that they are saying 'Don't ignore me, come and say hello', while others don't want immediate attention and want to settle before they say hello.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

We are proud to adopt the principles of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) in our care approach. PBS is a proactive, person-centred approach that aims to reduce challenging behaviours by understanding the underlying causes and addressing them with respect, care, and clear communication. Our PBS Lead, Harry Taylor, works in the home on a daily basis ensuring that our training is implemented and we continue to strive to embrace the positive impact PBS provides.

We focus on teaching new skills and providing support strategies that improve quality of life. By encouraging positive behaviours and promoting emotional well-being, we empower residents to manage challenges in a constructive and dignified way. Our staff is trained to create environments where residents feel safe, respected, and valued, ensuring that everyone’s needs are met with patience and understanding.

Social inclusion

A key principle at Cocklebury Farmhouse Homes is social inclusion. We believe that every individual deserves to feel connected and engaged within their community, and we work hard to create opportunities for social interaction both within and outside our home.

We actively promote participation in a wide range of social activities, including community events, outings, and volunteer opportunities. Residents are encouraged to develop relationships, build friendships, and participate in social networks that enrich their lives. By focusing on social inclusion, we help residents feel valued, respected, and part of a wider community.

Our Registered Manager, Simon Willis, is currently completing his Masters in Autism and Social Inclusion. This qualification means that we will continue our ambition to be at the forefront of inclusion, empowering every individual to live a fulfilled life.

  • Engagement in meaningful activities is essential to improving the quality of life for adults with learning difficulties. Our activity-focused care model centres around finding and nurturing the hobbies and interests that make each resident feel happy, engaged, and fulfilled. We find this to be the basis of helping the individuals we care for to remain on baseline and to continuously feel inspired.

From sports such as canoeing, rugby and horse riding to creative pursuits like crafting and journaling, and more, we offer a diverse range of activities designed to stimulate creativity, improve physical health, and encourage cognitive development. Activities are not just about passing time—they are integral to building confidence, independence, and a sense of achievement.

Our experienced staff work closely with each resident to identify their interests and tailor activities that align to their preferences. We celebrate personal successes, whether it’s learning a new skill, taking part in a group event, or simply enjoying a quiet moment in a peaceful environment.

Alongside our daily and weekly activities, we also love holidays! Holidays are important to us, as they’re a moment to relax, have fun and be in a different place. Every year we go to St Ives in Cornwall, Porthcawl in Wales, Spring Lake in the Cotswold Water Park and Holburn.

  • We believe in helping residents develop the skills they need to become more independent, whether that’s learning to manage personal care, make decisions, or manage daily tasks. Our staff provide gentle support where needed, always encouraging residents to take part in activities that promote self-reliance and personal growth. One of our residents has developed his love of cooking into a qualification and now helps to cook the meals in one of our homes most days.

By focusing on individual strengths and abilities, we help residents achieve a greater level of independence, leading to increased self-esteem and a stronger sense of autonomy.

  • Whether it’s physical, emotional, or social support, our team works closely with residents and their families to ensure the care we provide is flexible, responsive, and always in line with the individual’s evolving needs. From healthcare support to personal development, we’re here to help every resident achieve their full potential.

  • Success to us is breaking the cycle of instability by creating long-term placements for individuals, where they continue to be happy and healthy. The individuals we care for have complex behaviours, but with the right care, support and understanding of their passions, we can create a home for life.
