Positive Behaviour Support
Cocklebury Farmhouse Homes have a clear vision and culture to support individuals that may display behaviours of concern. This culture is underpinned by having a clear focus on quality of life and offering support in a person-centred way.
By investing in an individuals’ quality of life we have seen remarkable success in reducing behaviours of concern and empowering people to live fulfilling, engaging, and ultimately, happy lives.
What is Positive Behaviour Support?
All behaviour occurs for a reason, and behaviours of concern are no different. An individual may display a behaviour of concern in order to meet an unmet need. PBS is a framework for working out why the display of behaviours of concern arises, and then finding better ways to meet this need to reduce the likelihood of the behaviour of concern from being displayed.
PBS uses scientific ways at collecting information, which is guided by a strong values base and delivered in person-centred ways. PBS uses decisions based on facts and research, not opinions or hear-say. This is done by using applied behaviour analysis to describe, predict and change behaviour.
PBS at Cocklebury Farmhouse
At the Cocklebury Farmhouse Homes, all individuals have a PBS plan in place that is personal to them. These plans are co-produced with the individual to ensure that it is person-centred and increases the feelings of autonomy that an individual has over the support they receive. The plans in place ensures that the individual is actively supported over the long-term to maintain their high quality of life.
Through the investment in an individual’s quality of life, we have seen a significant decrease in the behaviours of concern that were once displayed and allowing individuals to live as independently as possible and being a part of the wider community.
At Cocklebury Farmhouse, we use other evidence-based approaches in the PBS plans. These include having access to a Clinical Psychologist, Speech and Language therapist, Occupational therapist, Mental health nurse and an expert in Autism. All of our training is delivered through Bild certified trainers, Sherwood Training.
“Firstly, can I say that you have scored very highly on the national Behaviour Support Plan Content Appraisal Tool (BSP-CAT) [Nationally Recognised] for the plan for SR. In fact, this is the highest scoring plan that I have completed to date and you and the team should be justifiably proud of the work you have completed relating to PBS strategies within your organisation.”
